Lighting up Christmas Spirit in Kenora
Article content
The lighting of the Kenora Christmas tree drew quite a crowd to the corner of Main St. And Second St. S. on Friday, Nov. 22. The relatively mild temperatures for the third week of November was likely a factor in attracting so many families with young children downtown to take part in the official kick-off to the Christmas season in Kenora.
Santa and Mrs. Claus were escorted to the corner of Main St. S. and Second St. S. by Treaty Three Police Service officers. The Yuletide couple greeted the crowd and posed for photos with youngsters. Celebrity mascots Sparky the Fire Safety Dalmatian from Kenora Fires and Emergency Services and the Orng Air Ambulance Flyin’ Lion were also on hand to meet the kids.
This year’s giant Christmas tree was donated by the Duguay family with cousins Londin, Duguay, 11, and Hunter Duguay, 11, throwing the switch to light up the tree at 6 p.m..
Afterwards, Lake of the Woods Museum staff and board members welcomed everyone over to the open house for hot chocolate, spiced apple cider, cookies and gingerbread. The Sideways Singers and the Friends of the Museum (First Baptist Church) sang carols and set a festive mood for folks to mingle.
