Local COVID-19 cases now at 17

The number of local laboratory-tested positive cases of COVID-19 has increased to 17.

The Brant County Health Unit on Wednesday updated their figures at 11 a.m. and say there are now 17 cases in Brantford-Brant County. That’s up from 14 on Tuesday and four last week.

An increase in local cases this week was not unexpected. The increase is due, in part, to a clearing of a backlog of tests with many local testing results coming in to the health unit on the weekend.

Public health officials are urging people to stay home as much as possible and to maintain proper physical distance – two metres or six feet – when out in public.

The health unit is now seeing more cases of community spread of coronavirus which makes physical distancing extremely important.
