Court digest: Man gets time served for wrench assault, indecent act

A Brantford man who assaulted a woman using a wrench was ordered to get help for his anger issues.
Calvin W. Winter, 30, of Huron Street, pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon and failure to comply with probation orders when he appeared before Justice Robert Gee.
On May 18, he was arrested for hitting the woman and having possession of a weapon that was dangerous to the public peace.
Gee ordered that Winter be assessed for anger management, along with any psychiatric or psychological issues.
The judge sentenced Winter to 114 days of time already served and ordered him to maintain a one-year probation period.
In May, Winter was also sentenced by Gee after pleading guilty to committing an indecent act in public and breaking probation orders after Winter exposed his buttocks to patrons of a Tim Hortons last December.
He also pleaded guilty to breaching probation in June 2018 and not showing up at court in February this year. Gee sentenced him to a total of 120 days of time already served.
Choked partner, man jailed
A Brantford man, who assaulted his partner by choking her and returned to assault her again weeks later, was sent back to jail on top of a time-served sentence handed out recently in Ontario Court.
Craig Richard Benoit, 32, of Park Avenue, pleaded guilty to the first assault on Nov. 21, 2017, and to intimidation where he prevented the woman from leaving her Beechwood Avenue home.
He also pleaded guilty to the Jan. 10, 2018, assault and a charge of breaking bail conditions when he pursued the woman despite a court order.
Justice Kathleen Baker credited Benoit with 144 days of time already served and sent him back for a further 66 days for a global sentence of 200 days.
He was ordered to get assessed for counselling on domestic violence.
Pleads guilty
A Brantford man cleared up charges from more than a dozen arrests in 2017, 2018 and 2019 when he was recently in Ontario Court.
Gregory Wilfred Roloson, 47, pleaded guilty to 10 offences and saw charges withdrawn from a further 17 crimes.
Roloson admitted to possession of a knife in 2017 when he threatened a man.
From 2018, he pleaded guilty to not showing up for a court date in April and November, possession of stolen property under $5,000 in September, and a set of charges from Nov. 17 that included two counts of possessing and using a stolen credit card, two counts of fraud under $5,000 and possession of an illegal drug. Eleven days later he breached his bail conditions and pleaded guilty to that.
Some charges from April and June this year were withdrawn but Roloson has to return to court to deal with June 12 charges of possessing an unauthorized firearm, possessing a prohibited weapon and careless use and storage of a firearm.
Justice Colette Good sentenced Roloson to 90 days of time already served and 45 more days in jail. She also gave him suspended sentences on five charges, meaning he won’t spend further time in jail if he maintains his two year probation.
Thief sentenced
A Brantford woman facing 21 charges from 11 different dates in 2018 and 2019 pleaded guilty recently in Ontario Court to 11.
Tiffany E. Laframboise, 30, pleaded guilty to five counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of failing to appear for court, possession of an illegal drug, mischief to property over $5,000 and possession of break-in instruments.
Justice Colette Good gave her credit for already serving 170 days in jail and sentenced her to a further 43 days. Good also gave Laframboise four suspended sentences, meaning she won’t see further jail unless she breaches her two-year probation.
