Mobile CT scanner coming to NGH

Norfolk General Hospital is asking visitors to use the Robinson Street entrance where possible until further notice.
A mobile CT scanner will be installed in an enclosed walkway in the area of the emergency department entrance on West Street Monday. This is in preparation for the removal and replacement of the hospital’s current CT scanner.
“The placement of the mobile CT in the hospital laneway will create some restrictions to access to NGH,” hospital spokesperson Gerry Hamill said in a news release this week.
“The patient transfer door will be closed. Patients will be able to use the emergency department doors to the emergency department and the diagnostic imaging department. These doors can also be used to access the main hall to the first-floor elevators.”
To reduce traffic and possible congestion in the area of the emergency department, visitors are asked to use the Robinson Street entrance – where possible – for patient pickups and drop-offs.
The mobile CT will be operational in early December. It will be available for in-patient and emergency use only until the new, permanent CT unit is installed and operational in 2020.
