No visitor access at Norfolk General

There is no visitor access at Norfolk General Hospital.

“These actions are being taken to ensure the safety of our health care workers and patients receiving care at each hospital and to limit the spread of infection,” said a press release issued by the hospital on Thursday. “Active screening will continue at the ED entrance for new patients, hospital staff, physicians and other essential service providers.”

The only exceptions to the restrictions will be loved ones visiting a patient in palliative care or a partner of someone giving birth. In both cases, visitors are encouraged to call ahead to the hospital to discuss access.

These visitor rules have been put into place in accordance with public health guidelines to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Ontario.

The press release also says if a patient has just returned from international travel, attends the ED for other health reasons and is showing no signs of COVID-19 symptoms at screening, that patient will still be required to be placed in isolation for 14 days upon hospital admission.

“The safety of our health care, hospital and nursing home community is our priority. I want to take this opportunity to thank our team of physicians and staff who are doing their best to take care of our patients, while supporting each other during this time of uncertainty,” Kelly Isfan, president of NGH, said in the release. “We ask for the community’s patience and understanding as this situation evolves and we respond to these changing circumstances.”

Norfolk General Hospital will continue to monitor for COVID-19 in the community.
