The closure of the property located at 172 South Drive was announced Tuesday morning by the Norfolk County Agricultural Society in accordance with the provincial order to close all outdoor recreational amenities to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The fairgrounds cover about 48 acres at South Drive and Queen Street. The property, particularly the track area, is frequently used by the public for walking and jogging.

“We know that this will be difficult for some of our neighbours who use our open spaces, but it will help reduce the potential of spreading this contagion and we will continue to do whatever we can to assist in this time,” said George Araujo, general manager of the Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show, in a media release.

This will not affect the operation of the Online Simcoe Farmers Market Program nor other administrative operations by leaseholders, said the release. Vehicles for administration of these operations will be allowed to be on the grounds.
