Officers use stun gun during convenience store assault: police

Stratford police say officers used a stun gun on a suspect who allegedly assaulted an employee at a downtown convenience store, resisted arrest and attempted to flee.

The suspect caused a further disturbance in the Stratford jail after being taken to headquarters following use of the conducted energy weapon, police alleged Tuesday. The suspect also allegedly stole a bag of chips during the incident, which took place around 10:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

A 37-year-old male suspect, who was known to police and had a warrant issued for his arrest Monday afternoon after he didn’t show up in court, was charged with assault, resisting arrest, breach of probation, breach of recognizance, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and mischief under $5,000.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing Tuesday.
