The cabins, which were built at Abel Enterprises in Simcoe, were placed in the park in late 2019 to be used for a market at the Christmas Panorama.

The Rotary Club approached the Norfolk County parks division in February asking if the cabins could remain in the park permanently, which is why they are still in the park.

“We were going to open them up once a month to vendors, artists, and farmers in order to sell their goods,” said Gail Catherwood, one of the organizers of the market and a member of the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise.

Catherwood said the cabins had not yet been moved from the park because they were awaiting a response from the county.

“I was not going to move them off and move them back on,” said Catherwood.

Plans were in place to upgrade the cabins once receiving approval from the county, including coating the outside with an anti-graffiti topcoat that would make it so spray paint can’t bond to the surface.

“If we’re not allowed there would be no need because no one is going to be out spray painting in the wintertime,” said Catherwood. “Now this is what’s happened.”

As parks are currently closed no one from the Rotary Clubs or Abel Enterprises is able to go on the property to fix the cabins.

Catherwood also said she appreciates the calls and emails from people asking to help cover the cost of repairs but she believes there are more pressing issues at the moment that money could be going towards.
