A crew from Vicano Construction Ltd. began work Tuesday to clear the site for the new No. 2 fire hall to be built on the playground area of the former Ecole Fairview.
Construction of the $5,375,000 station, which will replace the 58-year-old hall on St Paul Avenue, is expected to start before winter.
The new station will have a ground floor of about 14,000 square feet and 32 parking spaces.
Fire trucks will exit station on Fairview Drive and will have control of traffic lights at the intersection of Fairview and the Highway 403 entry and exit ramps.
Fire trucks will return to the station through entry on Norman Street, which also will be used for access to the visitor and parking areas.
