Since inception in 2002, the CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon has raised over $11 million to support quality health care throughout rural communities in mid-western Ontario.

The Radiothon is one of the most compelling fundraisers in Mid-Western Ontario, bringing together local hospital foundations, in support of purchasing medical equipment for area hospitals.

This year, the AMGH Foundation set out to raise $30,000 to provide full-service Holter monitoring, tracking irregular heart rhythms, at AMGH. Prior to Radiothon, The Bluff’s at Huron Social Committee put on a silent auction for their community and raised $1,000.

Mary Thordarson, AMGH’s Story from the Heart this year, lives in the Bluff’s community and shared her story in order to help raise awareness for the importance of having this equipment close to home.

The Foundation is once again inviting the community to get involved and challenge others in the community to support the Radiothon project.

Ottewell, Lynn, Frook, Mullen Barristers and Solicitors have issued the first challenge, to other local law firms, by pledging $1,000.

“We attribute Radiothon’s success to true community involvement, including donors calling in, service club donations, third party events and our community challenges, dedicated volunteers, and the shared commitment of the participating hospital foundations to work together for quality health care close to home. Everyone involved deserves a sincere thank you,” shared Shannon LaHay, AMGH Foundation Executive Director.

When the Radiothon went off-air at 4 p.m., the grand total for the AMGH Foundation was over $15,000 towards their $30,000 goal. This total is expected to grow as the Foundation continues to accept contributions and community challenges for their project for another few weeks.

Donations can still be made by dropping off or mailing to the Foundation Office, by calling the Foundation at 519-524-8508, or online at www.amghfoundation.ca. Until Oct. 31, a $10 donation can also be made by texting the words HERO AMGH to 41010.
