Search of residence yields drug-trafficking charges

A couple faces multiple drug charges after a search of a downtown residence on the weekend.

Greater Sudbury Police said they received a number of complaints from community members “regarding potential criminal activity being conducted out of a residential unit on MacKenzie Street.”

The police service’s drug enforcement unit carried out a search warrant a the residence on Saturday evening, with assistance from the tactical unit.

“Detectives located methamphetamines, oxycodone and over $2,100 in cash, as well as stolen property including a motorcycle, electronics and power tools,” police said in a release.

A 36-year-old man and 35-year-old woman were arrested and charged with multiple offences.

These include possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. 

Both individuals were released on a promise to appear and will be in court on Nov. 20 to answer to the charges. 

Their names cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process, police said.

The integrated crime team of GSPS “will continue to focus its efforts on major crime operations that pose a direct and elevated threat to the safety, security and wellness of our community,” the release states.
