Victim suffers serious injuries

A man was stabbed at the emergency entrance of the Norfolk General Hospital on West Street in Simcoe at just after 6 p.m. on Friday night.

A verbal confrontation between three men escalated at which point two of the men attacked the third with an edged weapon.

The two suspects fled the scene eastbound on West Street. One suspect was riding a bicycle; the other was on foot, said police.

The victim made his way into the emergency room for treatment for serious injuries.

Police say the victim and suspects were known to each other. “There is no threat to public safety,” said OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk.

The OPP’s canine unit, emergency response team and crime units were involved in the search for the suspects.

Social media reports say there was a major police presence on Norfolk Street South at Victoria Street at about 7 p.m. It’s unknown if the two incidents are related.
