The school expects student participation in this year’s annual campaign — which was first held more than 30 years ago — will rise to nearly 300. Since the inception of the drive, close to $763,000 has been collected and the school hopes to add another $25,000 this year.

The door-to-door campaign blitz will take place from 5 to 8 p.m., in various Greater Sudbury neighbourhoods, with students first assembling in the school gymnasium to receive their instructions and enjoy a pizza supper provided by the Northern Cancer Research Foundation.

As a way of maximizing the impact of this year’s campaign, the school has also invited former students, who will certainly be motivated to participate by their desire to honour former Alouette Melissa Kingsley, whose death last year from cancer was a great loss to us all.

“The display of commitment to this initiative on the part of our students and staff demonstrates exceptional compassion,” Collège Notre-Dame principal Mélanie Bourget said in a release. “The magnificent level of support and generosity from Greater Sudbury residents is a constant encouragement to continue this charitable campaign year after year and do our part in the fight against cancer.”
