Time served for city woman

A Darling Street woman who repeatedly violated court orders was held in custody for months after yet another breach of conditions in January.

Alicia Marie Hinds, 25, was sentenced earlier this year in Ontario Court after pleading guilty to three counts of failing to comply with bail conditions.

Justice Robert Gee withdrew early charges of transportation fraud and robbery in April and July of 2018. He also withdrew a breach of bail conditions in November.

But he sentenced her on failing to remain in her residence unless she was with her surety on Sept. 10, Dec. 11 and, this year, on Jan. 5.

With each conviction, the sentences grew longer resulting in 177 days of time already served since she had been held in custody.

Hinds was ordered to take counselling for alcohol abuse.


Man gets extra jail time

A Scotland man who broke into a Brantford home last August was sentenced to time served plus another 111 days in jail when he appeared in Ontario Court recently.

Telly Lawrence Kehoe, 45, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering the Pearl Street home with another person on Aug. 20, when he was living in Wilsonville.

As part of his recognizance, he was ordered not to communicate with a Brantford woman and to stay out of Brantford. He broke both those orders on March 8.

On April 24, he broke the orders again by being within 100 metres of the woman.

Justice Colette Good gave Tehoe credit for already serving the equivalent of 54 days in jail and ordered him back to jail for another 111 days for a five-and-a-half month sentence.


Man assaulted his partner

A Colborne Street man was sent back to jail after pleading guilty to assaulting a partner in February.

Nelson Wesley Getson, 22, was on probation at the time of the offence.

Justice Robert Gee credited him with already serving 107 days in jail and sent him back for 73 more days. He also ordered that Getson provide a DNA sample, remain on probation for three years and have no weapons for 10 years.


Man ordered to get help for anger

A Charlotte Street man who assaulted his partner and threatened to kill her was sentenced to time already served when he appeared in Ontario Court recently.

Steven Michael General-Smoke, 29, pleaded guilty to the Dec. 22, 2017 assault and uttering threats. Charges of forcible confinement were withdrawn, along with a mischief charge for damaging the woman’s computer.

Justice Colette Good credited General-Smoke with already serving 135 days in jail and ordered that he get help for anger management and domestic violence issues. He also had to provide a DNA sample.
