Tough weekend for area hockey clubs

Christian Froese, Weston, Carson McMillan and Blair Butchart picked up assists Saturday night for the visitors while goalie Justin Richer turned aside 24 shots in the defeat.

Both Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Western Conference clubs went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Lincolns (2-5-0-0) return to action Thursday in Sarnia against the Legionnaires (4-2-0-0).

Over in the Midwestern Conference, Chayse Herrfort scored twice and Brayden Krieger added a third consecutive goal but the Listowel Cyclones’ rally fell short in a 4-3 loss in Kitchener. Goalies Riley McCabe and Evan Reinhart both allowed two goals, with McCabe picking up the loss.

The Cyclones were 1-for-8 on the power play while the Dutchmen went 2-for-6. Listowel (2-2-0-1) returns home to host the Cambridge Winterhawks (1-3-0-1) Friday night.

In Provincial Junior Hockey League play, the Mitchell Hawks fell 4-2 Saturday night in Mount Forest. Tyson Hall and Brandon Williams scored in the setback.

Zach Weber stopped 31 of 35 shots while his club went 0-for-4 with the man advantage. Mitchell (2-3-1-0) hosts the Kincardine Bulldogs (3-2-0-0) Wednesday night.

The Tavistock Braves (4-0-0-0) head to Woodstock to face the Navy Vets (3-3-0-0) Tuesday night.
