Town gives Canada Day celebration tips

With the COVID-19 pandemic still modifying our ability to gather in groups, the overwhelmingly successful July 1st celebrations of past years by the Kirkland Lake Festivals Committee, are not possible. Nevertheless, this does not mean that residents of Kirkland Lake cannot celebrate.

Mayor Pat Kiely states, “We are on the cusp of Canada Day – July 1st, 2020; traditionally a time when we as a community gather to celebrate and share our sense of pride of both our country and our community. This year will be different; however, we can still celebrate safely and be thankful for what we as a community and a country do individually and collectively.

Let us celebrate 153 years as Canadians and 101 years as the Town of Kirkland Lake.”

Locally, participate in the Scavenger Hunt as a group of friends or family with the first clue available July 1st at Town Hall.

Frolic at the Splash Park between 2 and 7 pm, enjoy a 1km walk around Kinross Park, or play a game of tennis or basketball 21 at the sport courts at Civic Park.

“Remember that physical distancing is still required, however, we can still celebrate our nation’s birthday. Be sure to visit Canada.ca to download four different Canada Day Celebration kits, watch the daytime and evening shows with a virtual tour of celebrations and great Canadian artists, and watch the virtual fireworks. On July 1st let’s unite virtually and share our national pride, from Bonavista to Vancouver Island as the song goes.”
