The now virtual event – slated for June 4 – will again connect local workplaces with United Way for a day of project planning, team building, community awareness and making a difference.

“Due to COVID-19, this year’s Day of Caring is going to look a little different, but we are very excited about the opportunity this has to create a day of great impact,” Amanda Kreiger, the United Way Oxford’s resource development manager, said.

“The true meaning of Day of Caring is still present – community coming together, supporting one another and spreading local love across Oxford County. Even when we are six feet apart, we can still be united.”

People taking part can use the hashtag #LoveYourNeighbour on social media, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and tag the United Way Oxford.

People, families and workplaces can become involved simply by doing acts of kindness in the community.

There are several projects across Oxford County and the day showcases the impact volunteers can have.

The first Day of Caring began in 2006, when local businesses and volunteers came together to finish hands-on projects for not-for-profit organizations in Oxford County.

Since then, there have been more than 1,100 volunteers who have worked on 145 projects.

There were more than 100 volunteers last year who worked on 13 projects for a combined 576 volunteer hours in the one-day event.

The projects included planting community gardens, painting, landscaping, preparing nutritious snacks and light construction.
