On May 14, 2011 around 5:17 a.m.,  Everets, 20, a resident of Port Hope, was struck by a vehicle on Cockshutt Road. The unknown vehicle never stopped and left the scene.

After taking part in the festivities with his father, Everets visited with friends before deciding to walk to the parking lot near the intersection of Cockshutt Road and St. John’s Road to pick up his car. Everets’ plan was to bring his vehicle back into town and stay with his father.

The Ontario Provincial Police, Norfolk County Detachment Crime Unit continues to investigate his death.

Shortly after 5 a.m. a newspaper delivery driver reported seeing Everets seated along the shoulder of the Cockshutt in the area of the initial impact. The driver pulled over down the road with the intention of asking Everets if he needed help.

At this point, the delivery driver reported two vehicles coming out of Port Dover at a high rate of speed. Both were travelling erratically, as if they were racing. The vehicle in front slowed as it neared Everets. The vehicle in back swung out to pass. The second vehicle is believed to have struck Everets, killing him. Neither vehicle remained at the scene.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen Everets or the suspect vehicle in the early morning hours of May 14, 2011 or who may have information about this investigation to contact the Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave an anonymous online message at www.helpsolvecrime.com.
