Last week, I had the pleasure of being sworn in for the second time as your MP for Sarnia-Lambton. It was an honour to be re-elected and I look forward to going back to Ottawa to bring your voices to Parliament.

On Nov. 20, Justin Trudeau announced his selections for cabinet ministers for the beginning of the 43rd Parliament.

Many of the Liberals granted cabinet positions are people I have good relationships with, which will be positive for Sarnia-Lambton. We now look forward to seeing the roster of shadow ministers for the Conservative Party.

In the meantime, Members of Parliament will be returning to Ottawa to debate the Speech from the Throne to open the 43rd Parliament on Dec. 5. The Throne Speech, given by the Governor General, will broadly set out the new government’s goals and initiatives for the new Parliament.

We are heading back to Ottawa in a minority government, meaning that no one party will hold the majority of the seats in the House of Commons. This makes all votes in the House of Commons particularly interesting. If the majority of the Members don’t agree, it can trigger a vote of non-confidence, which would send us back into another election sooner than the typical four-year election cycle of a majority government.

In riding-related news, we had a successful Remembrance Week throughout our riding, with a great turnout to all the ceremonies. The commemorations were made even more special by the adding of 26 missing names of veterans to the Sarnia Cenotaph.

There are many exciting events coming up over this holiday season.

I will be the host to a Christmas Meet and Greet at the Lambton Mall on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. There will be free cookies, hot chocolate, coffee, and 2020 calendars. Following this, the Petrolia Christmas Parade will begin at 2 p.m. The Sarnia Santa Claus Parade will take place along Christina Street on Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.

I am looking forward to being back in Ottawa as your voice for Sarnia-Lambton. Until then, I am available to help on any federal issue you may have– please call the constituency office at 519-383-6600 or email me directly at Marilyn.Gladu@parl.gc.ca. I appreciate your support, and am excited to work for you going forward.
