Trudeau foreign policy record ‘abysmal’

It is not surprising that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has chosen not to participate in the public leaders debate on foreign policy. By opting out he doesn’t have to defend an indefensibly abysmal record.

His lack of success here has damaged and undermined Canada’s international role and strained relations with all three of the world’s strongest powers.

Canada-India relations are still under the cloud of his casual disregard of the ethnic complexity of Indian society on his bumbling Mr. Dressup tour of the subcontinent in 2018.

Trudeau’s relationship with the mercurial Trump regime has been marked by acrimonious trade disputes and lapses of protocol, which he has tried to atone for by acting with the swagger of an international bounty-hunter by the arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou.

The detainment of Meng Wanzhou, moreover, has really soured relations with China, one of Canada’s key trading partners and the Canadian economy has suffered as a result.

The list goes on and on and that’s why I’m voting for a leader who will give us safer borders and stop wasting Canadian money on harebrained overseas improvement projects.

Climate change biggest issue

The climate crisis is the single biggest issue of our lifetime. This will be our last election to solve it before the damage is beyond repair. The Amazon rainforest is burning, the Arctic is burning for the first time in 10,000 years, Greenland’s ice sheet is melting and storms are getting stronger and more violent as we have just witnessed with the devastation hurricane Dorian has brought to the Bahamas.

But the old-line parties are still too tied up in corporate interests and silly political gamesmanship to care. While the Amazon burns, all Scheer cares about is SNC Lavalin.

SNC Lavalin has been a trainwreck for many years, plagued with corruption scandals. Who cares?

It is time to get real, people, and vote Green as the future of your children and grandchildren depend on it.

Double standard

I find interesting that the defectors from North Korea are being deported because they lied on their refugee application, yet the federal Liberal government has a sitting member who did the same thing but is still here and collecting taxpayer money. This is just another case of the Liberals’ double standard, which seems to be a regular occurrence.

Bad and good

Shame on all of you who use handicapped parking spots when you do not need them. Someday you may really require this service and will find someone has filled the spot without need or permit. The fine for doing so should be monitored more closely.

On a positive note, kudos to all the great people who respect this regulation. I use a cane or walker and am amazed at how many helpful people I encounter – opening doors, helping with parcels, returning carts. The helpers range in age from young to old. A heartfelt thank you to all of you.

Too many people forget that one day they will be a senior or could develop a disability that might require a kind person to offer a bit of assistance.

What do MPs think?

Ramping up to the next federal election it would be interesting for readers of this newspaper to find out what our representatives think of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and how he is handling issues confronting his government.

From SNC Lavalin to free trade to Brexit and Trump, all of Canada needs to know how our representatives feel about his involvement in these critical areas. Do our representatives in Parliament stand by our views, the views of their party or the views of critics or the PM? Only an investigative report on the issues will inform voters of how they want to vote.
