Flags bring back coaches, hand out year-end awards

The Mooretown Flags announced Tuesday that head coach Mark Davis and assistant coaches Jeff Perry and Mark McCabe will return next season.

The Flags have also handed out their year-end hardware, with the most valuable player award going to forward Max Steeves.

Steeves – the MVP of the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Stobbs Division – was the division’s scoring champion with 65 points in 38 games.

Garrett Miller was named the Flags’ best defenceman after winning the same award for the Stobbs Division.

Brody Genyn was the Flags’ rookie of the year, Blake Howard was the most sportsmanlike, Greg Hay and Brock Perry shared the coaches’ award, Jake Wilkins and Dawson Vautour shared the heart and soul award, and Brock Barber won the scholarship award.

The Flags (33-7-0-0) were second in the Stobbs Division standings. They were set to play the first-place Lakeshore Canadiens in the division final when the rest of the season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
