Hearn was not originally in the field for this week’s Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort (Copperhead) in Palm Harbor, FL. However, playing in a Monday qualifying event, he earned the fourth and final spot in a playoff.

Shooting a five-under-par 67, Hearn entered a playoff with Steve Marino and Piri Borja for the final spot in the PGA Tour event.

During the playoff, with Marino eliminated, Hearn also appeared down and out on the fourth sudden-death hole when his second shot carried the green and Borja’s was three inches from the cup. However, Hearn chipped in to keep things going and then Borja tapped in.

On the fifth playoff hole, Hearn birdied a par-five while Borja could not convert his, allowing Hearn to qualify for the Valspar.

Tee times for the Valspar were not out at press time on Tuesday.

Hearn, a Brantford Golf and Country Club member, has limited status on the PGA Tour after finishing outside the top-125 last season. He currently sits 164th in this season’s FedEx Cup standings.

This was the second time in his career, and second time this season, Hearn has Monday qualified for an event.
