Jr. A 99ers riding five-game win streak

The Brantford 99ers made it a handful of victories in a row following a pair of wins last week.

After opening its Ontario Junior A Hockey League season with two losses to Oakville, Brantford now has won its past five contests.

Playing at home, the 99ers beat Trenton 5-3 on Thursday before ending the week with a 4-2 victory versus Wellington.

Tied 3-3 with Trenton past the midway point of the third period, Brantford scored twice to secure the win.

Michael Palandra (one goal, two assists) had a big offensive game for the 99ers with Eric DeDobbelaer (2A) and Jacob Ball (2G) each getting two points.

Jake Partridge and Alexandar Dameski rounded out the scoring, while Colton Incze was the winner in goal.

Brantford’s Griffen Fox picked up an assist for Trenton. In 14 games this season, Fox has six goals and 10 assists. The former Kingston Frontenacs draft pick is tied for ninth in league scoring.

The 99ers outshot Wellington 47-31 in the second game.

Kyle Bollers (2G, 1A) had a huge game, with Noah Boman (1G, 1A) picking up a pair of points.

Once again, Incze was the winner.

BRANTFORD 99ERS

The 99ers can’t seem to snap their losing streak. Brantford was beaten twice last week at home – 4-0 by Elmira on Thursday and 4-0 on Sunday against Cambridge. The two losses pushed the 99ers winless streak to eight games.

GOLDEN HORSESHOE CONFERENCE

CALEDONIA CORVAIRS

Caledonia hasn’t lost since its opening game of the season.

After dropping a 2-1 decision to Listowel on Sept. 7, the Corvairs have won 11 straight games.

Most recently, Caledonia beat Niagara Falls 6-4 at home on Saturday and Welland 7-0 on the road on Sunday.

After Niagara Falls tied Caledonia 4-4 just past the midway point of the third period, the Corvairs scored two late goals to win the game.

Ryan Wells (2G), Joel Mazzilli (1G, 1A), Ryan Littlejohn (2A), Noah Caperchione (2A), Colt Corpse (2A) and Kessler Syke (2A) all got two points for Caledonia with James Valente, Eric Allair and Nick McHugh also scoring.

Niagara Falls was 3-for-10 on the power play. Aidan Hughes was the winner in goal.

Ryan Littlejohn (4A), Tyler Burnie (2G, 1A), Joel Mazzilli (3G), Matthew Bridgwater (1G, 1A), Dylan D’Agostino (2A) and Eric Allair (2A) had big games for Caledonia against Welland.

Ryan Wells also scored as Aidan Hughes earned the shutout.

DOHERTY DIVISION

PARIS MOUNTIES

In its only game last week, Paris was beaten 6-2 by Ayr. Maguire Duwyn and Kyle Brezinski scored for the Mounties in the loss.

BURFORD BULLDOGS

The Bulldogs lost twice at home on the weekend, suffering a 9-2 loss to Woodstock and a 5-0 defeat by Wellesley. Taylor Kellam and Parker Noble, on the power play, scored the goals against Woodstock, which outshot Burford 84-28. Woodstock was also 6-for-9 with the man advantage while Burford was 1-for-8.


DELHI TRAVELLERS

Delhi will be forgetting about last week as quickly as possible. Following a 15-1 loss in Norwich on Friday, the Travellers lost 17-1 to Tavistock at home on Saturday. Garrett Magalas scored on the power play for Delhi against Norwich with Brady Reid notching the goal against Tavistock.

BLOOMFIELD DIVISION

HAGERSVILLE HAWKS

The Hawks continue to hold down first place in their division, tacking on two more wins to their record last week.

Hagersville edged Glanbrook 2-1 on the road on Friday and then beat Hespeler 4-3 at home on Saturday.

The Hawks are 7-1 this season, with four of those victories by a one-goal margin and another by two goals.

Luke Erauw’s third-period goal was the difference in the Glanbrook game, which also saw Wesley Fritz score for Hagersville.

Avery Hartwick earned the win for the Hawks as his team was outshot 40-24.

In the 4-3 win, Tycie Cowan got three assists to lead the offence. Ben Huffman, Ralph Taggart and Connor Stirling were the goal scorers.

Hartwick got his second win of the week.


PORT DOVER SAILORS

Port Dover continues to come up just short in close contests.

The Sailors lost in overtime, 4-3 in Dunnville on Friday, and then they were beaten 4-2 at home on Saturday by Glanbrook.

Port Dover has now lost four games by one goal and another one by two goals. The Sailors are 1-7 on the season.

Nicolas D’Agostino scored the equalizer late in the Dunnville game before the Sailors lost when they gave up a power-play goal in overtime.

Aden Morton-Ferguson got two assists for Port Dover with Connor Hisaw and Ashton Mikasko as the other goal scorers.

The Sailors outshot Dunnville 45-28.

Keaton Kewley and Lynden Lemoire scored in the Glanbrook game.


GREATER METRO JUNIOR A HOCKEY LEAGUE

SOUTH DIVISION

ST. GEORGE RAVENS

The Ravens remain unbeaten.

With wins of 6-5 in Niagara on Friday and 10-0 in Durham on Sunday, St. George is a perfect 6-0.

Kyle West (2G, 1A) led the way against Niagara with Christian Polillo (2A) also playing a big part. Joseph Shaheen, Bailey Pritchard, Axel Juntorp and Nicholas Messier also scored.

Elio-Emmanuel Noce was the winner in goal.

Once again, Kyle West (1G, 4A) was the big offensive threat in Durham with Polillo (1G, 2A) right behind.

Matt Marinier (2G, 1A), Ben Madiment (1G, 1A), Justin Sanderson (1G), Cameron Ison (1G, 1A), Nick Boehmer (1G), Axel Juntorp (1G, 1A) and Nicholas Messier (1G) were the other goal scorers.

Hunter Chenhall picked up the shutout.
