Red Sox lose Game 1 to Baycats

BARRIE –The Brantford Red Sox have their work cut out for them after losing Game 1 of their best-of-seven quarter-final Intercounty Baseball League series to the defending champion Barrie Baycats.

The Baycats, who are seeking a sixth straight IBL title, won 12-2 on Thursday night at Coates Stadium.

Abel De Los Santos (0-1) took the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits with a walk and five strikeouts in six innings.

Offensively, Nic Burdett and Chris Iltshishin drove in Brantford’s runs. Doug Parks had two of Brantford’s four hits.

For Barrie, Conner Morro went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBIs. Ryan Spataro had two hits, two runs and an RBI, Starlin Rodriguez scored twice and drove in a run, Jordan Castaldo had two runs and two RBI, Kevin Atkinson singled twice and scored twice with an RBI, Kyle DeGrace went 2-for-5 with two RBI, Glenn Jackson added a pair of hits and a run, and Branfy Infante and Jeff Cowan both scored.

Emilis Guerrero (1-0) allowed one run on two hits over seven innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Game 2 is Saturday at 7 p.m. at Coates Stadium

The series shifts to the Arnold Anderson Stadium at Cockshutt Park for Game 3 on Sunday at 8 p.m. and Game 4 on Aug. 14 at 8 p.m.

If necessary, Game 5 is Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Coates Stadium, Game 6 is Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. at the Arnie and Game 7 is Aug. 17 at Coates Stadium.
