Simcoe Giants win third tournament of the year

The Simcoe Giants midget team has won its third straight tournament of the season.

The Giants were trailing 6-3 with two out in the seventh inning, then rallied to score four runs and shocked the host Ancaster Diamondback 7-6 to win the Matthew Krol Memorial Tournament in Ancaster, July 19-21.

Owen Oates’s clutch two-out, two-run single tied the game and Riley Cleaver scored the winning run on an infield error.

Cam Wall was named tournament MVP.  He was the winning pitcher in two previous games and picked up the save in the championship game.

Simcoe went undefeated in the round robin, defeating Mississauga 7-2, Ancaster 3-2, Waterdown 3-2, and Kitchener 6-4.

The next tournament for the Giants is the midget A provincials in Brantford, Aug. 16 to 18.
