“First and foremost, he’s a strong defender,” Lions head coach James Grant said in a statement Tuesday. “Right away, I noticed how strong his ability is to stay with any guard on the dribble.

“On the offensive end, he can get into the paint, seemingly at will, and makes really intelligent decisions with the ball at the point. He knows what he wants to do and carries it out.”

Ebet won the Saskatchewan 4A championship with Moose Jaw Central in 2019. He played this past season with the Notre Dame Hounds of Wilcox, Sask., on the National Senior Circuit.

Ebet is the Lions’ second recruit from Saskatchewan for next season. Diaz Lagrone of Lloydminster committed in April.

The recruiting class also includes Justin Schutz of Chesterfield, Mich., CJ Skye of Scarborough, Ryan Knight of Hamilton and DeQuan Powell of Detroit.

Colter commits to St. Clair Fratmen

Defensive end Austin Colter of Sarnia has committed to the St. Clair Fratmen of the Canadian Junior Football League.

The team, formerly known as the AKO Fratmen, is now owned by St. Clair College’s Student Athletic Association.

The six-foot-six, 250-pound Colter is a Central Elgin graduate who played four seasons with the Sarnia Imperials.

Legionnaires blue-liner moves up

Defenceman Bryar Dittmer is leaving the Sarnia Legionnaires after one season to play for the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Markham Royals.

The five-foot-nine, 160-pound Dittmer had two goals and six assists in 35 games with the Legionnaires.

“(He’s) a defenceman that can skate well and move well and can move pucks up the ice real well,” Royals head coach and general manager Mike Galati said. “A total all-around type of defenceman and … a kid that has good character as well.”

Dittmer, who’ll turn 19 in September, is a Chatham native and Lambton Jr. Sting alumnus. He joined the Legionnaires after playing junior B in 2018-19 with the Brockville Tikis.

“I think his main goal is to get an NCAA deal somewhere and he feels playing junior A gives him the best opportunity to do that,” Galati said.
