“On behalf of the entire Sting organization I would like to thank Nick for all of his efforts with our team as well as his dedication to our community over the past two-and-a-half seasons,” Sting general manager Nick Sinclair said in a statement. “We wish him all the best as he transitions to the Battalion and onward in his hockey career.

Grima had six goals and 46 assists in 162 regular-season games with the Sting, who acquired him from the Peterborough Petes in December 2016. He had a career-high 30 points in 65 games last season.

The six-foot, 197-pound Toronto native has 10 goals and 67 assists in 235 OHL games.

“He’s a right-shot defenceman, which we lack,” Battalion director of hockey operations and head coach Stan Butler said in a statement. “He has some experience playing on the right side. He’s a good puck-mover and he defends well.”

The Sting still have four overagers: forwards Ryan McGregor, Sean Josling and Calvin Martin, and defenceman Kelton Hatcher. Only three can dress for a game.

McGregor has yet to play this season because of an injury.

Perreault on NHL watch list

Sting winger Jacob Perreault received an A rating on NHL Central Scouting’s October watch list for the 2020 NHL draft released Monday.

The A rating is given to players considered to be first-round draft candidates. Eight OHL players have an A rating.

Perreault, 17, is the Sting’s leading scorer this season with eight points in five games. He shares the team lead with three goals.

Last season, he had 30 goals and 25 assists in 63 games to earn a spot on the OHL all-rookie first team.

No Sting teammates made the Players to Watch List. However, Sting draft pick Brendan Kennette – a 17-year-old defenceman with the OJHL’s Burlington Cougars – has a C rating.

The 2020 NHL draft will be June 26-27 in Montreal.
