The line of Reilly Funk flanked by Orca and Ocean Wiesblatt combined for nine points as the Terriers doubled up the visiting Waywayseecappo Wolverines 6-3 Saturday night at Stride Place in Portage la Prairie. The win is regular season victory number 520 for Terrier head coach/GM, Blake Spiller, who surpasses Ken Pearson for third all-time in MJHL career head coaching victories.

Funk opened the scoring with the Wiesblatt brothers assisting on the goal five and half minutes after puck drop. Greg Lee answered back for the visitors at the 13:27 mark of the first to even the score.

Newly acquired defender, Morgan Poirier, put the Dogs back ahead early in the second before a Reece Henry power play tally increased the lead to two.

Ocean Wiesblatt kick-started a high scoring third period with his eighth of the season. Kylar Fenton and Ty Barnstable traded goals soon after before Orca Wiesblatt found the back of the net on the power play to provide the Dogs with some added insurance.

Jake Bestul notched a power play marker of his own late in the third but it was as close as the Wolverines would get.

Nathan Moore turned aside 24 Wolverine shots for the win while Waywayseecappo’s Isaac Labelle made 23 saves in the losing effort.

Spiller now trails only Doug Stokes (670) and Don MacGillivray (669) in Manitoba Junior Hockey League career coaching wins.

Blake Spiller, left, moves into third all-time in MJHL career coaching victories with 520.

The Dogs are back in action Friday on the road in Virden where they will look to push its season-high win streak to eleven straight.
