The University of Regina Rams defeated the Alberta Golden Bears 31-17 on Saturday, but were nonetheless eliminated from playoff contention.
It was a bittersweet Saturday for the University of Regina Rams.
They snapped a five-game losing streak by defeating the University of Alberta Golden Bears 31-17 in Edmonton, but were nonetheless eliminated from playoff contention in Canada West football.
Regina (2-5) needed help in the form of a University of Calgary Dinos victory over the host University of Manitoba Bisons, who won 43-29 on Saturday to leave the Rams out of the post-season picture for the second successive year.
But the Rams handled what they could control on Saturday, when Josh Donnelly threw for 339 yards and three touchdowns.
On the opening play from scrimmage, Donnelly found Ryan Schienbein for an 80-yard major.
Donnelly also threw TD passes to Riley Boersma (69 yards) and Kyle Moortgat (24 yards).
The Rams’ season finale is Friday against Manitoba (7 p.m., Leibel Field.).
