The 18-year-old Fort Saskatchewan product has been turning heads during his rookie season in the National Hockey League.
Kirby Dach was selected third overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2019 NHL entry draft. Since signing a three-year entry level contract the young centreman has been working hard to earn his spot on the team.
Dach made his NHL debut on Oct. 20 against the Washington Capitals and two days later he had his first NHL goal. 16 minutes into his second ever NHL appearance Dach took a back-door pass from winger Olli Maata and found the back of the net.
On Oct. 30, after six games with the team, the Chicago Blackhawk’s head coach Jeremy Collation announced that Dach would be remaining with the squad for the foreseeable future.
“It’s obviously thrilling and exciting for me,” said Dach on staying with the team. “It’s something I’ve dreamed about for my whole life. I came into camp wanting make this team and pushing to make it. To finally get that recognition from Jeremy [Colliton] and the management group is awesome. I’m thrilled to be here.”
Since the announcement Dach has played two more games with the Blackhawks. On Nov. 2 he picked up an assist against the Las Angeles Kings. Eight games into the season Dach has one goal, two assists and averages 12 minutes of ice time per game.
“He’s been a bright spot for us,” said head coach Jeremy Colliton through the team’s twitter account. “He immediately showed he was comfortable in this league.”
If Dach plays 10 games in the NHL in his first year he burns a year from his entry-level contract.
